Extracurriculars
I am captain of the girls cross country team, leader of science bowl, and a participator in Model United Nations. I enjoy being active, trying new things, and working with others.
About Me
Hello! My name is Allison Kalva, and I'm a senior in the Global Studies Program at Watkinson School. I joined Global Studies because I love learning and I want to connect with the world around me. I want to learn about as many perspectives as I can while also being understanding and accepting of them. I am especially interested global health and the effects of globalization.
Future Plans
All throughout my life I have enjoyed math, science, problem-solving, and creative thinking. I currently plan on majoring in bioengineering/biomedical engineering in college. I love that in this field I'll play a role in advancing medical care for humankind.
For my capstone project, I researched the representation of women in engineering. I wanted to gain a better understanding of why women are a minority in the field, solutions to address the gender disparity, and ways to support women in engineering.
Service
In tenth grade, I went on the Watkinson School Dominican Republic Service Trip.
I am a volunteer ski coach for STRIDE Adaptive Sports and Simsbury Special Olympics (SSO). During the winter season, I teach students who have physical and/or intellectual disabilities how to ski.
Photography & Travel
I am also passionate about photography. I enjoy taking all sorts of photos, but I am especially interested in nature and black and white photos.
I love seeing the world, learning, and challenging my perspective. The world is a beautiful space and there is so much to learn.
