STRIDE & Simsbury Special Olympics
Community service
STRIDE Adaptive Sports is an organization that provides lessons to those with disabilities. In 11th grade, I trained to be a STRIDE coach for skiing. This organization also works with the Simsbury Special Olympics Ski Team, which I also volunteer with.
Cross Country
Teamwork, leadership
I am captain of the Watkinson Girls Cross Country team. I love running and I am committed to self improvement and the team. I do my best to be a role model, a team player, and a supportive and encouraging friend for all the runners on the team.
Science Bowl
Teamwork, leadership
I have been participating in Science Bowl since 10th grade. We prepare for the Northeast Science Bowl that is held at the University of Connecticut. I learn about leadership as I am always coordinating with the teacher, making announcements, and recruiting members.
Global Meetup-Pandemic: Call to Action
Teamwork & critical thinking
I and other female students and experts around the world discussed several topics related to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It was amazing to hear from students all around the world and how their country was handling Covid-19. We also participated in a Hackathon project where we created the idea of an app that would help people during the Covid-19 pandemic. We all felt more united after the seminars.
Global Meetup-The State of Democracy & the Global Impact of the U.S. Presidential Election
Teamwork, critical thinking
I and other female students and experts around the world discussed the state of democracy worldwide, how the 2020 presidential election is impacting the world, and how other countries currently view the United States.
Model United Nations
Teamwork, critical thinking
As a participator in MUN, I role play as a delegate in the United Nations & simulate UN committees. Each conference is a great experience where I learn a lot, improve my public speaking, and get to work with many other amazing delegates.
La Romana, Dominican Republic
Service
In 2018 I was in the Dominican Republic on a Watkinson service trip. I worked in a medical clinic, worked on the construction of a house and a school, played with kids, and experienced Dominican culture.
Being a part of this service trip was an amazing experience. Despite the language barrier, I had a great time interacting with the Dominican people. I also gained a deeper appreciation for everything I am so fortunate to have in my life. Even though they don't have all the materialistic things I have, they celebrate what they do have and are happy. This service trip was an eye opening experience and something I'll never forget.
Getting to meet students from the Joe Hartman School
The Joe Hartman school. I was a part of the group that painted walls of the building.
At the medical clinic we played with kids and gave them stickers and tattoos.
